July 2002

Monday - July 1, 2002

WEIGHT: 223 lbs (just a fraction under)

8:34a - I thought I might not make it to work this morning. My sunburn is really bad.

8:35a - Only 3 days until Chuck gets here!

I wrote a letter of condolence to Frances Pflugfelder and sent it out today. Her husbad passed away. Frances works in Cityhall in Orlando. I don't believe I ever met her husband, but I know he had continuing health problems. In May 1994 when I was in the hospital (Orlando Regional Medical Center - ORMC), he was there at the same time. I beleive he was getting a foot amputated due to diabetes.

11:32p - Lisa Z was not at work today. It was moderately tough. I took abou 28 calls. It was good to get to the end of the day, that's for sure.

11:33p - I worked extensively on designing my new website tonight. Then I went up to the pool and took a dip. It felt good on my sunburn. While I was at the pool, my aquaintance, Ben, came up. He was dressed in a tie and looked very daper. Iihe sh' os' uutkye!! It breaks my heart. His situation is so dismal... living with four people in such a small apartment. The same size as mine. I would like to invite him here so he can see that it can BE a home... if one makes it so

11:42p - I am snacking on some corn. I hope it is not TOO bad as far as fat/calories go. Skip is off to work already. He tells me that Polly is being fired. That may be good for him. She has been a major factor in his problems at work. She seems to be (from my limited perspective) very white-predjudiced. He is such a hard worker... I know this. I know my brother. I know our upbringing!

11:45p - My corn is gone... it was too good.

As promised, I lit a candle for Mr. Pflugfelder tonight.

11:46p - I was very upset tonight. After I came back down from the pool, I worked some more on my new web site. Something went wrong and I lost it all. I had a lot of text written!! That REALLY upset me! Well.... I guess I will have to start over.

11:58p - It's almost "tomorrow." I just made some more corn. It is hitting the spot, but it's time to go to bed. Unfortunately, Ben is still floating around in my mind. I must erradicate THAT thought... but its not that easy.

Tuesday - July 2, 2002
Happy Birthday to my nephew
Scott Terrell - in Moyock, NC

WEIGHT: 223 lbs.

12:01a - I am still sitting here thinking about Ben. He is such a handsome young man. He will just not be removed from my thoughts that easily..... Someone might think I was a homosexual from my commentary. Oh well... let them think what they will....

12:03a - All my corn is eaten. Yummy. I should serve this at a booth at Fair St. Louis. I understand there will be several hundred thousand people attending!!! It will undoubtedly be a mess. But Chuck will be here to share it, so it should be EXTRA cool!!

7:50a - The candle I lit last night was still burning this morning, but it has finally gone out.

7:56a - I drank that entire bottle of Chardonay last night. I really did not intend to drink that much. I feel it this morning too. Yuck.

7:57a - My sunburn is still painful, but not as bad as yesterday. I wore my red silky shirt yesterday. I think I will wear the black one just like it today.

7:58a - I better get moving. Time to take Kira out. I would rather go back to bed. My tongue has a blister on the left side and it is wearing me out.

I logged 40 calls today (half of them were Citrix CD reuestes fom new Residents).

Went to the pool for a swim again tonight. Twice.

Wednesday - July 3, 2002

7:57a - Darn... I've over slept again. Gotta rush! Oh good... I see Lisa Z is on line.

7:59a - YAY! ... Chuck gets here tomorrow!!!

9:15a - Kira just got hurt. She tried to run down the steps after a squirrel and twisted her left front foot real bad. She was screaming and crying in pain. I don't think I've ever heard going on so. I thought she must have broken a bone, but I think it is just badly sprained. She tried to walk back to the apartment, but she was getting tired. I made her stop and sit several times. Finally, I picker her up and carried her half way. She seemed to think that was fun since when I put her down she tried to run. But she was quickly reminded that her foot was injured.

9:19a - I am waiting for Skip to get in, but he seems to be late today. I wanted to explain what had happened, but it looks like I will have to write him a note.

9:20a - I got the caller ID working on the phone a few minutes agin. I had put one of the batteries in the wrong way (duh!).

9:21a - I am so upset about Kira's foot. I should not have let her loose to chase a squirrel. It is really upsetting me, but the damage is done. Her foot doesn't seem to be swelling up. She puts a little bit of weight on it, not much, so I don't think its broken. I can handle her foot and she doesn't seem to be in pain either. Poor thing. She rarely gets an injury, so this is fairly major to her. I hope it heals well.

6:54p - I only logged 24 calls today, but there were about a total of 49 total. I worried about Kira all day long. Skip tried to make her a make-shift splint to keep her foot immobilized. I am not sure if its helping or not. I took her for her walk tonight and she is still limping badly. She can't put much weight on her foot at all. However, she still tried to chase some birds and she thought she was going to chase a squirrel, but I wouldn't let her off her leash.

6:58p - Calisa e-mailed me today, so I guess her computer is working, at least partially. She informed me that they dog, Tuffy, got killed about three weeks ago. That was very sad. He apparently got his head under Mitch's truck's wheel (I am not sure how) and was killed instantly.

7:14p - I am watching the movie, "Dune." They had a great "prologue" that explained things very well. I wonder if the prologue is new? I don't remember having seen it before.

7:36p - I just noticed my back is hurting me. I bet it is from carrying Kira this morning. It hurts if I take a deep breath. I am about to go down to the store and get some beer. I thought I might go out tonight, but I guess I won't. The diet is off till Monday too. Then I think I need to get even tougher on myself.

7:57p - I just got back from the store. My back is hurting worse!

8:04p - Calisa just called me. I am speaking to her now.

8:20p - We just ended the converstation. She is going to send me some money... YAY! I normally would not care, but I have been hit by too many problems all in a short period of time.

8:35p - I just finished cooking a pot of rice for Kira's supper and put on another one for my self. Mine included more seasonings including a layer of orange slices on which I have set 3 pieces of chicken (spicey, battered and pre-cooked... by "Banquet" I think).

8:40p - I am still sorta-halfway watching "Dune." I think I shall go to the pool for a while. It closes at 10pm.

9:27p - I had a pleasant time at the pool. Spent some time chatting with "Jeff." He seems pretty cool. He too is an avid sci-fi fan; however, he is Republican... if that means anything.

10:20p - I ate some supper and went back to the pool. Dustin is the life guard working up there. Iihe sh' os' aathe Y'aantk' iibiifle che!! I am wondering if Skip works tonight. I ask him on-line today, but he did not answer.

10:23p - Ick... my face is peeling!

Thursday - July 4th, 2002

9:25a - The big day is here! I just called Chuck to make sure he he my cell phone number. He will be arriving on flight 1632 at 2:25p. I hope the trains are not TOO packed today.

9:29a - Kira is still limping just as bad. Her poor foot must have really been twisted bad. It hasn't swollen up though. She is leaving her "splint" alone at least. I used some pruning shears and cut the excess of the chop sticks. They were up to her shoulder.

I went upstairs to the roof this morning and watched part of the air show. They had a Stealth Fighter and a B51 fly over. I took a lot of pictures. Then my batteries went dead, so came down to get my other set, but they were unexpectedly dead too. I had to go down to the store and buy some.

I met Chuck right on schedule. He arrived at the East terminal. I had never been to the East terminal before and went on to the other terminal (the West terminal?). I eventually discovered that his flight was to arrive at the East terminal and had to take the train back. I still had a few minutes to spare. Chuck called me on my cell phone just as I was stepping off of the train. I found him in moments and we headed back

He got his hotel room okay, though it was a little difficult to find 9th street since there was no sign marking it. The pool was not in service at Chuck's hotel, so we came back to my place and took a dip in the pool and watched "part 2" of the air show. There were some parachutists and plane flying in formation doing aerial acrobatics.

We decided to go to Clem's where we could get a bite to eat, but the bus never ran. We ended up going to to Calico's where Chuck got some pork chops (which he said were excellent) and I got some Italian Spring Rolls. But now it was 7:00p and we called a cab. We were going to go to try to go to Clem's again, but we stood there waiting for the cab for and hour and they never arrived. No bus ever went by either. We ended up walking down to LaClede's Landing and went to Hanegan's where Lisa served us a few drinks. Then we came back to my place and watch fireworks on the Promenade. I took more pictures. Some of the firework pictures came out pretty good!

After the fireworks we headed out to The Complex. The trains were so unbelievably PACKED!! We were crammed in like sardines and at every stop people tried to squeeze more bodies in. There just was no more room, but people were trying to get in.

We made it to grand, but I go disoriented and did not realize that I went up the wrong stairs and was on the opposite side of the road from where I inteneded to be. I was walking the wrong direction and when I got to where my side road was supposed to be, it was not there. Chuck was getting disgusted and irritated with me. We were hot and sweaty and I could not understand why I could not find the place. I finally thought to ask him which way he thought the the Arch was and he pointed the opposte direction than I expected. Then I realized what I did wrong. So we had to walk the opposite way. We were so hot & sweaty!

We got to The Complex and had a few more drinks, then we walked over to Drake's and had a drink there before they closed. I was getting pretty drunk by this time. We called a cab (which actually arrived this time!) and headed home. We dropped me off and the Chuck went to his hotel.

Friday - July 5, 2002

10:16a - Yesterday was a busy day and it took a while to catch up. I am sitting here now waiting for chuck to give me a call. He said he was going to sleep until 10:00a.

10:17a - I am peeling from the sun burn I got last Sunday.

10:20a - I am hungry ... I hope Chuck calls soon. I think we will go to the Zoo today. I thought we might also go to Union Station for a bite to eat.

7:25p - We never made it to the zoo today. It was just too hot to think about it. It was about 98 degrees at one point, and the humidity was outrageous. I med Chuck around noon at the metrol link and we went to Union Station. We mostly just looked around there, but we did stop for a bite to eat at the food court... A&W to be exact. My "parodid duct" problem flared up again this morning and I was in extreme pain trying to eat the chicken strips. Just as I was finishing them, I felt something "give" in my jaw and the pain seems to have gone away.

7:28p - We left Union Station and went to the History Museum. We spent half the day there and I took a lot of pictures. We left the Museum and went to Talayna's. Jack met us there. I was going to have just one beer and leave, but I must have had 4 or 5! We got a bit of a buzz going and then left.

7:29p - We are at my place now. Hop-a-long Kira has gone for her walk I took her out with no shirt today. I am feeling a little better about my appearance. I am still too fat, but at least I have some decent colour now! But I started peeling this morning. When I took my shower, my chest STUNG like fire!

7:31p - We are going to go for a dip in the pool shortly, but Chuck is watching the Cardinals play. So far the Cards are winning, two to one.

After our trip to the pool, we we down to LaClede's Landing. After walking around in the crowd's of people and stopping for frozen cocktail, we ended up back at Hannegan's again. I ordered the "Roasted Salmon Citron" finally. I was very good. Better than the Salmon at Hoolihan's, but not as good as the Salmon at Macarroni's.

Pleasantly tired, full, and a little buzzed from a few drinks, we came back to my place where Skip entertained us for a few minutes with some MP3 musics files, then Chuck went back to his hotel and I crashed.

Saturday - July 6, 2002

8:48a - We are going to try to make it to the zoo today. It was too hot yesterday, so we thought we might go earlier and beat some of the midday heat. Probably not. I got up at 7:00a and was going to go to Soulard Market this morning, but I laid back down and just got up. So I guess I won't make it.

8:50a - Time to take Kira for her "hop." Poor thing.... she still can't put weight on her foot.

8:51a - I am peeling pretty bad today. Mostly (as Bart Simpson would say) in the "chestal area." It's itchy too.

Chuck and I went to St. Louis Berad Company for lunch, then we went to the zoo. It was too hot and, and even though I enjoyed what I saw of the zoo, I was glad to leave. We left around 5:00p and went to Talayna's. We had a couple of cocktails there, then called a cab and went to Freddies. We were going to eat at Novak's, but Chuck was uncomfortable there so we left and went down to Attitudes. I left him there and went back to Novak's where I got an order of French Fries. The we went over to Rainbow where we finished off the French Fries. They had some hors deuvres there and I had a corn on the cob I think. This consituted our supper for the evening! We left there and went to JJ's where we proceeded to have a very good time. I did not realize that place was so huge! What I thought was a hallway to the bathroom all this time, was in reality the way to a HUGE hangar-like room with what looked like thousands of people!

About this time I lost track of Chuck. I was getting too drunk and finally called a cab and left. I barely remember getting home other than walking Kira on the Promenade.... but I had a geat time.

Sunday - July 7, 2002

I feel awful this morning. So does Chuck. I can't find my cell phone either; I think I left it in the cab. I called the cab company, but they haven't found it yet. Chuck felt pretty bad too and just paid for another night at Holiday Inn rather than be bothered by checking out at noon. (He didn't get up until 11:00am).

I found my phone. It was in my "fanny pack." I don't know how I missed it.

Chuck finally made it over around 2pm. We walked down to the ATM, then over to the Old Courthouse. I had never been in there before. We stayed for a few minutes, then walked over to Fair St. Louis. We had to go through security and be searched just like at the airport. We had to go through the security check again we we went into the Arch. We wandered around the Arch a bit, then got in line to take Tram Ride #47 at 3:50pm up the North Arch leg. It is a trip we will not forget, but not for the most pleasant reasons. Some young boy in car #2 vomited as soon as the doors opened at the top and we had to stay in our car for about 10 minutes while enjoying the putrid aroma of what must have been about a gallon of barf! It was awful. I kept smelling puke for hours afterwards.

Despite the regurgitation situation the view from up there was (as usual) quite spectacular. I was lucky in that the air show was in progress and I was able to get a few pictures of it from up there.

We went back down the North Leg again, this time in car #3. Car #2 was still out of commission and the steps were still covered with barf. Then we wandered about the fair for a bit. I was still waiting for a return call from Jack to see if we were all going to go to the Tivoli Theater where we had sort of planned to watch "Y Tu Mama Tambien," which everyone says is supposed to be a good movie.

We then returned to my place where we ate a bit of the pork shoulder that I had spent all morning baking. I was about to take Kira for her walk when Jack called at 6pm to see if we were going to join them at the Theater. Unfortunately, there was no time. We had decided that Jack was not going to call and that we were too tired to go. By the time I could walk Kira, take showers, get dressed, catch the train and travel to Delmar, it would have been too late. So just went up to the pool for a while. Then we came back in and watched part of the tail end of the new series "Dead Zone" which Chuck and I both have been wanting to watch. Chuck left about 9:45pm.

I spent an hour or so finishing up the re-touching process on the 318 pictures I took this weekend. Then I went to bed around 11:00pm

Monday - July 8, 2002

8:03a - Chuck should be on his way home now. I really enjoyed his visit. We had a good time. But now its back to the regular routine. As usual, it is now time to walk Kira. She is still hopping, but I think she is starting to put a little weight on her injured foot now.

8:22a - I just had an interesting experience while walking Kira! We walked over to the little alcove where I normally take her for the first time in 4 or 5 days and she saw a squirrel. As usual, it climbed a wall and whe watched, though not as enthusiastically as usual. Meanwhile, another squirrel came out was was sitting about 4 feet behind Kira!! It just sat there. I was yelling at Kira to look, but she just didn't get it. The squirrel then ran into the bushes by me, so I stepped over to try and block it. I know Kira won't catch the squirrel, its just too fast and agile for her, but I wanted her to see it. It's her favorite thing. I called to Kira, but she was still looking for the other squirrel. I heard the one in the bushes by me rattling around and continued to try to get Kira's attention. That's when the squirrel came out of the bushes and mistook me for a tree! I started climbing my leg! I yelp shook it off. I bet it was even more surprised that me! What a trip. And Kira never saw the darn thing....

This was a busy day, but I only got about 34 calls logged. I didn't eat anything for breakfast and only a turkey wrap for lunch, but I lost control and ate a bunch of the pork roast and a pot of rice when I got home.

Chuck called me while I was on the elevator going home this evening. He enjoyed his trip and returned home with no incident. He plans to visit again around October.

I worked for 4 hours from home tonight. There was only on voice mail message all evening, but I checked every 10 or 15 minutes. I also got all my pictures from this weekend transferred to my network drive at work so I can make a CD.

Tuesday - July 9, 2002

7:23a - I am so sleepy this morning, but I don't have a vivarin or anything. So I have put on a pot of coffee. Very rare for me!

I got Chuck's CD full of pictures in the mail for him, and Colleen's Family Tree CD off to her. Calisa is back on-line today! I was glad to have my sister back on-line. I worked at home till 10:00p again tonight. I had one actual call left on voice mail from Dr. Schmitt. Tonight was also the first night of the dart league. Billy call me on my cell phone at work and I had to tell him I was working tonight. I will make sure I don't get scheduled ona Tuesday in the future.

I learned some new words in Mandarin today. I learned "Wo nen ban ni ma?" (may I help you?); and "Wo dom" (I understand); and "Wo huijang Putonghua idiendien." (I speak Mandarin a little). I am sure my spelling is nowhere near the proper pinyin standard, but its as close as I can guess.

Wednesday - July 10, 2002

7:52a - I am again very sleepy this morning. I had a lot of wild dreams last night. I can't remember much, as usual, but I do remember one fairly long dream segment about Todd Gauvin. I was fighting someone to protect them. I can't remember any details. Todd died shortly after I moved to St. Louis at about age 31. Recently I have been having a lot of dreams which include people who I have known and who have died.

8:07 - I made coffee again this morning. I am finally starting to wake up. A little.

8:25 - It is overcast outside and there is a cool breeze. Of course.... now that Chuck's visit is over!

The call I took from Dr. Schmitt last night turned into a fiasco at work today. Umsaanwe sh' ogaengy' uut' t'ge ny' ubtrolbe baask' aavye che. Aanje che sh' aatn' iime!

I went to Talayna's afer work. I was bad and broke my diet for some beer and wings. They were so delicious though!

I am up to about chapter 22 in Robert Jordan's book #9 of the Wheel of Time series, "Winter's Heart." It takes forever for me to read a book these days, since I only read on the train and/or a few minutes at lunch.

Thursday - July 11, 2002

7:50a - I feel yucky this morning. The heavy food and beer do take their toll, and I am not used to it after a month of NOT having fatty foods and/or alcohol before going to bed.

8:19a - I think one of the elevators has broken down again.

Lisa was out today, but Gary worked so it was not too bad. I still logged about 35 calls.

I went for a dip in the pool this evening, but it was chilly! It started raining shortly after I went out and Tom closed thed pool.

Colleen caught me on-line and told me she received the FTM CD.

Friday - July 12, 2002

7:51a - It's overcast out. The sun is trying to get through, but its not winning. I have coffee on again this morning. I was up much of the night. I had many strange dreams again. The winner was the dream in which I was at someone's house (one of my sister's I think). Both Calisa and Darlene were there. I looked out the window and thought I saw a small explosion, but was not sure that it was not some kind of fireworks. I tried to bring it to someone's attention, but no one was really paying attention to me. Then I saw the entire block blow up violently! It was a way off from me, but I knew there would be a shockwave. I told everyone to lay down on the floor, They did so and moments later the aftershock hit. Things flew around the room, but the structure did not give. Then I tried to get everyone to get in our (my?) car and get back to my place. By this time I somehow had learned that the explosion was caused by an earthquake. The ground had split open and ruptured a gas tank or line or something. We stopped on the way to my place to get some strawberry shortcake at a fast food place (apparently Darlene worked there). I noticed that Darlene was wearing only a denim jacket at this point and motioned to her to close her jacket up! Everyone was taking there time and I was trying to get them to hurry before the earthquake resumed or something. Against protests, I sent everyone to the car and stayed behind to pay. I was just going to hand over 3 or 4 dollars, but I had trouble counting the money. I kept getting it wrong and meanwhile I was starting to worry that my apartment (in a high-rise) might not be the safest playing to go. I still kept getting the money count wrong and it was stressing me out... this ended up waking me. I so I don't know where that dream was going. Very strange, right?

8:04a - Now I am behind schedule.
8:09a - Gotta hurry

I forgot my bus/train pass in my hurry this morning. Fortunately, I did not get checked. I was so paranoid the whole way to work. I left work by taxi and went over to Freddie's for a few drinks.

Saturday - July 13, 2002

I got up around 9:30. Took Kira for her walk. Fixed some soup. Went for a dip in the pool around 10:30a. It was COLD! About noon I joined Diana from next door and we went to Soulard Market. Skip met us at the bus stop and went with us. This is the first time I have been there since getting back from CA! I only bought chicken... no red meat. There was a small Blues festival/flea market going on next door to Soulard Market and Diana and I walked around there for a bit. She bought a beautiful bracelet for just $3.00. I bought a new sterling silver chain for my pentagram pendant for $22. Skip got separated from us and went on home. We got back out to the bus stop at 1:33 to catch the bus at 1:47. A bus arrived at about 2pm and we got on it, but it was not the Broadway bus (which apparently never DID run). We inadvertently got on the Soulard bus and had to get off at Busch Stadium where we caught the MetroLink (train) to the Convention Center. We were going to go to WalGreen's, so since we were right there at the St. Louis Center, we just took our groceries on in with us. I ended up spending over $81 at Walgreen's and I was only going to buy some vivarin and and cologne.

I went swimming for a while and talked with a couple of women at the pool. One named Mary Elizabeth. She mentioned something to about something being on my stomache. I looked down and was horrified to see a long string of some snot-like grossness hanging from my belly button! I was mortified. I thought it was something from the pool at first. Then I realized it was skin that was peel from me from my recent sunburn. It was really gross and embarrassing.

Diana was going to go out for dinner with me later, but she was not feeling well, so I went out. I ended up getting pretty much wasted again. It's a good thing I don't drive.Y'ond' iiremaerbe t'gaengy' omhe. T'be Y'uud' iiremaerbe t'gaengy' ikse, aanj' othraengy' aapye. Ch' aasw' aadbe.

Sunday - July 14, 2002

6:46p - I haven't done much of anything today. Dennis eds' iih' aasw' ogaengy' uut' umk' oyaerv' ose Y'utk' ekt' izh' ikpaerche, t'be iih' idenche. I should have done laundry, or at least gone for a dip in the pool, but I have just been to out of it. I've just been eating all day. Back to the dieting again tomorrow.

Kira is putting a little more weight on her foot, but for the most part, she is still hopping on 3 legs. It's getting better, but slowly.

10:05 -I just fished watching a full episode of "The Dead Zone" on USA (channel 45 here). It was pretty good. I only caught about half of it last Sunday when Chuck was visiting and it was kind of confusing. It's much better when you catch it from the beginning, of course!

10:06 - I took a couple of Tylenol PM tonight and I am dead tired. I should sleep soundly, I hope. My throat is sore though; I hope it doesn't keep me up.

10:07 - I hear Skip's alarm going off. He should be up shortly... and another work week begins...

Monday - July 15, 2002

7:52a - I slept like a log last night. I only woke once. That's a rarity. I had all kinds of dreams again, but I've already forgotten most of them. I ust remember something about going on a camping trip. I had some paperwork that I had to make copies of to pass out to some other's who were going on the trip with me. The paperwork had something to do with how to take care of the US flag (I think). I found myself at my office with he papers waiting in line to make the copies. Sonia Fonseca (from Orlando Cityhall back in Florida) was in line in front of me. I don't know what ever made me think of her!

7:55a - I laid back down after getting up this morning and almost fell back asleep.

7:56a - I cut up a mango and put it in a bowl to take to work with me this morning.

8:33a - I caught up quickly this morning. I am already dressed, except for shoes. I am still sleepy too, despite the vivarin and ginseng. I think I have a Tylenol PM "hangover."

It turned out that Lisa Z and I did not have to work overtime this week or next.

Oh, well.

Tuesday - July 16, 2002

1:39a - I am still up. I have been cleaning house and this late... I should say "early" hour. I cleaned the kitchen a couple of times this weekend and vacuum the floor this morning before going to work. I was hoping Skip would at least wash the dishes today, but nothing was done. I had to clean up again.

1:43a - I cut up a peach, a plum and a mango for breakfast tomorrow.

1:44a - I think I had better go to bed now. Mi jam havis tri bierojn kaj du koktelojn!

7:53a - I am so sleepy this morning. I knew I would feel like crap.

7:55a - I have to play dars tonight.I'm not sure if I can keep doing this though. Skip was not working when I played last year and he walked Kira for me. I will try it tonight, but I may not be able to continue. I hate to let Marty down, but I have responsibilities to Kira... and don't want to come home to any "accidents."

8:34a - Kira is back from her walk. It's overcast out this morning. I am really behind schedule.

8:49a - I managed to get my shower, shave pick out my clothes and dress in 15 minutes. I just need to put my shoes on. I am starving this morning. I am glad I made the fruit bowl for breakfast last night.

I got highly irritated with a doctor this morning who refused to give me information and insisted I simply send someone over to make his computer work. I ended up breaking my diet at lunch. Actually, I stayed all "vegetarian" ... but that doesn't matter. I had eggplant parmesan, a side of buttery yellow corn and an order of curly fries. Then I ended up having a piece of cheescake! I tried to refuse... but it was the birthday of Joe Burn's and the cheesecake sat out and taunted me for hours before I gave in and had one piece.

I played my first dart game of the season tonight. I hadn't played in over a year. I did pretty good. I won 3 of 5 games, but our team lost.

I had a steamed chicken breast and rice with veggies for supper. That's a little better. I ate late though, since I had to cook after I got home around 9:45p.

Wednesday - July 17, 2002

8:00a - I walked Kira first thing this morning. This makes 2 weeks since her accident. She is walking on her foot a lot now if we go slow, but still limping strongly. When she picks up speed, she goes back to the three-leged gait. But she's getting better.

WEIGHT: 222.5

8:32a - I am showered & shaved and Kira is walked already. I even had a bite of leftover rice. I am way ahead of schedule.

My jubchuQun email was upgraded today... and it is great. This affects everyone who has email on my iste.

I went over to Jack's this evening. We had a long discussion about his recent legal incident. Iih' aasw' aadm' yaotbe che. Iih' aasw' aadm' aach' iime. Iih' aalyos' edp' iim' aakb' iith' unmein' iih' odj' iime. Then we went down to Talayna's where I further veered from my diet by having some wings and beer.

I went for a quick dip in the pool at about 5 til 10p tonight.

Thursday - July 18, 2002

8:11a - I am behind schedule. I had depressing and weird dreams last night. Very combative and antagonistic feelings are about all I remember. But at one point I remember being in a battle with "The Dark One" (for lack of a better term) at the bottom of the ocean. I think I won the battle... I am not sure. I recall something about broken glass which was dark blue in color. All very ethereal.

8:13a - Anyway, I have to walk Kira now. As I said, I am behind schedule.

8:33a - It is HOT out this morning. I am glad I work inside. Kira is still limping about the same as yesterday.

I made my salsa tonight, but Diana forgot and left the cilantro at her office! I will have to go get it in the morning from the CAM. I used 2 packages of tortilllas and made a batch of buritos fritados.filled with arroz con pollo. I also made an experimental salsa from chili pods and maize tortiallas. Thickened with corn starch. I don't know if its going to be liked or not... we'll see.

Friday - July 19, 2002

8:09a - I was up till 1:00am this morning cooking for today's "Salsa Fiesta." I am so tired this morning. I managed to get up and walk Kira already. She is still limping and hopping, poor thing.

8:11a - Diana and I are planning on a trip to Target tomorrow. She has rented a car for the day.

I managed to find Diana's office this morning. She works in the Schoenberg Building on 2nd floor right around the corner from Anna L. I thought she said she worked in the CAM. I will have to correct her on that. Though I went through the CAM to get to her office, it was not actually IN the CAM.

7:36p - I won 4th place in the Salsa cook-off today! I got a little certificate and a bottle of hot sauce as the prize. I didn't even realize they were going to be judging them! Well... that was entertaining.

7:40p - I had such a load of stuff to carry home tonight that I asked Dennis if he would give me a ride. Bless his heart, he could and did.

7:43p - I got home and Skip was conked out on the sofa and refuses to get up. The kitchen was a mess (I had no expectations that he would have cleaned it). His stuff is piled all over the love seat and he is sprawled out on the sofa, so I don't have much of any place to sit except in the secretarial chair at my computer, or in the love seat with all his stuff. This is getting ridiculous. This is the same stuff I was going through with Doug all over again; just not quite as bad... yet.

7:45p - The kitchen is mostly cleaned up now. Just a few things to wash by hand. I did take too long. I would have cleaned it up last night, but it was so late and I needed to get to bed.

7:47p - The pool closes in a little over 2 hours. I am trying to decide if I should take a dip or not.

Saturday - July 20, 2002

I got up around 9:00am, which was about an hour later than I intended. I took Kira for her walk, then came back in and started doing laundry... yes, on a Saturday! I vacuumed the floor, did dishes and cleaned the kitchen. I wasn't done with all this until about 1:00p. I was still waiting for Diana to call me about our intended excursion today. I had stopped by her place at 12:10 and 12:50, but she was not home. I call and left a couple messages for her and she finally called. She was behind schedule and had just made it to work. I didn't want to just sit around and wait for her, so I made of pitcher of what I call "Bacardi Double-O" and went to the pool to get a little sun. I took my boom-box with me and played my Esperanto CD. That's after spending nearly $20 on batteries.

Later I went out to Clem's & Bastille where I had a few drinks, chit-chatted, and finally (a little beyond tipsy) I called a cab. The cab never showed and I got a ride with someone, which was probably stupid. They were as drunk as I was! Oh, well... I survived... again.

Sunday - July 21, 2002

I mostly lounged around and did nothing but watch TV and work on the computer today. I found there is a problem with email. If I log on and view my inbox (not the email itself), then that email will not POP to my OutLook. I am working on this with my support people. I also created a email redirected which which will notify me by pager whenever anyone emails my site administrator account. Oh... I also sent out an email provided my clients with an email address which will let the change their email account's password.

7:00p - I watch "Men in Black II" (or MIIB). It was funny, entertaining, had lots of great special effect, but nothing really "new" or suprising.

Monday - July 22, 2002

8:07a - Kira is walked, journal caught up, Golden Girls are on, its a typical Monday morning. Here we go... another week.

WEIGHT: 222.5

8:10 - Kira is still limping, but I don't think I noticed her hop on 3 legs once this morning. She's getting better.

8:39a - I just cleaned to kitchen and put the dishes on to wash. Maybe it will still be clean when I come home.

8:56p - Busy day at work today. I logged about 33 calls I think. I also created email accounts for four of my nieces. And a new account for Calisa. I did good on dieting. A banana and some blueberry yogurt for breakfast.turkey wrap and a pickle slice for lunch (with diet Dr. Pepper). I had a half cup of rice for dinner so far, but I am still hungry. I had some beers too. I think I will open the bag of saur kraut I have in there and munch on it.

9:00p - I is storming out tonight. Beautiful and violent weather. Kira is dealing with it ... sort of. Better than usual. I turned the computer off for a bit, turned off the TV and the lights too. Then lit a couple of canles, opened the little window (more like a "vent") and sat back to enjoy the Creator's entertainment with a can of beer. Very relaxing.

Tuesday - July 23, 2002

7:45a - I made some decent progress on my new and improved web site last night. I actually succeeded in publishing a frameset page and created a flashing email button with a link to my email.

7:49a - Tonight will be my second "dart night" for the season. So far (after one game) I have the highest rating on the team. We will see if I can maintain that.

7:50a - Meanwhile, time to take Kira out and proceed with the morning.

WEIGHT: 222.25

8:22a - Kira is still limping some, but far less pronounced than before. I only saw her hop on 3 legs once (while she was looking for squirrels in the alcove).

5:58p - Getting ready to leave work. Off to play darts. I changed to my tank top and shorts before leaving. I logged 36 calls today. That's a lot for a Tuesday since Gary is here. Lisa Z went to the Dentist this afternoon though, so I caught her calls too.

7:44p - Marty just arrived at the bar for Darts. J.R. is not with him. He to eat at Bob Evans or some such.

I did not do very well tonight, unfortunately. My team rating% went from the highest at .6% to the lowest at .30%. Maybe I will do better next week.

Billy has dyed his hair. I looks like it was just bleached and it is in drastic need of toner and a good conditioning. I tried to tell him some things, since I have been dying my hair for over 20 years, and Doug was a license beautician for a while, but he wouldn't listen to me. He seems to be almost unable to listen to much of what anyone else says.

I stuffed and baked a squash for supper, and made a sauce with chicken breast chunks & reconstituted veggies to go over it. I was just a little to spicey/salty for my taste, but was pretty good over all.

Went to bed about 11:00pm

Wednesday - July 24, 2002

Skip got a promotion to a new position. He will be cleaning and buffing floors. It will be a .25/hr raise. Not a lot maybe, but its a move in the right direction.

3:32p - I slept awful last night. I drempt of Doug at one point. He had skates on and his hair was dyed. That was probably caused by Billy's hair disaster. I got up about 3:00am and had a slight headache. My neck and head hurt. Seemed to be tension. I lay in bed after that until around 5:30am before falling back to sleep. I kept thinking about what Jack said to me last week, and it just keeps bothering me. I never for a moment considered *not* helping him through the mess he is in until now. I don't need anyone, family, friend or stranger, to treat me like that. Especially nwe Y'iib' endspeany' os' aachm' unmeine to help. Oh well. I hope I did the right thing as a friend by letting him go off on me the way he did. Mi povas nur esperi. Part of me started to just get up and walk out, but I stuck it out and let him go through his tirade. I don't know if I am proud of myself for that or not. Twe sh'aande, sh'aande. Tamen, mi jam ne sentas kiel parolanta kun lin.

3:41p - Anyway, I felt awful this moring. My headache was really bad. I was sleepy, since I lay awake for 3 hours. Then my hip started aching; a strange and unexpected pain. A dull ache that would pulse sporadically, extending from my hip down my left leg. My leg would feel weak, almost to the point of giving out under me. Very weird. It seems to be better now, but I took a couple of sodium naprox caplets which may have helped.

3:50p - I decided to give myself a little rest and go to the office late. I finally decided to just take the enire day off. I have only missed a few days all year, but I still feel guilty.

10:41p - I got a lot more accomplished on my new website this evening. I learned how to create scroll bars in frames and how to change a frames width.

Thursday - July 25, 2002

7:58a - I got up 7:37a and thought I smelled a peculiar odor. I searched around and found it. Kira had an accident! Very rare for her. Skip just got a couple of carpet cleaning scrub brushes which I put to use already this morning and got it cleaned up. Kira will be getting the cold shoulder from me for the day. She already knows she is in trouble. Poor thing... she is guilty enough without my being mean to her, but I can't be lax with her.

8:04a - I feel so much better today, even if Kira's little surprise (well, not so "little" actually) did start my day out on the wrong foot. I took just one Tylenol PM last night and it seems to have been enought to help me sleep solidly all night. I woke up only once around midnight and did not wake up again until morning. I needed that. I feel more refreshed than I have in weeks.

I blew the dieting today. I bought food at a BBQ fund raiser for Diabetes at lunch. Then I went to Talayna's after work and had some wings.

I fed Kira just plain dog food tonight with no milk. I don't think she ate any of it.

11:53p - Barnabus just peed in the hallway by the front door! Aaaggh!

Friday - July 26, 2002

8:10a - It is dark and overcast out this morning. I thought it was raining, but not yet. I probably will. Kira is walking on her injured foot fairly steadily now, but I can still see she is limping. I noticed she seemed to be very tired walking back from her walk this morning. I hope she isn't sick. She may just be tired from her foot and not eating last night. I gave her food, but it didn't have any rice or milk added and she is spoiled to it.

8:48a - I is really dark outside now... and I think its raining slightly. Everything looks dark, as though its wet. I've had to turn all the lights on.

8:55a - Its pouring rain and thundering out now. Kira's going whacko. Skip is home already.

It was a long day. Lisa went to a doctor's appointment half way through the day, so I was alone for most of it. But it was not too heavy. I managed to get the Avery Label program loaded and got some Citrix & VPN CD's created PLUS their labels. It was nice not to have to bother Dennis to print them up for me. Then I made two CD's with my favorite "Romanian Top 20" songs. I made some relly cool labels which have a blend of English, Esperanto and Romanian on the label, including la Eperantajn kaj Romanujajn flagojn.

After work, I watched some TV, had some beers and managed to stay adequately sober. I was craving some of the big, plump oysters on the half shell that they have down at the Broadway Oyster bar and thought that Diana (next door) might like to go when she got in around 10pm. I took a dip in the pool to help get rid of some of the effects of the beers and felt fairly refreshed by the time she got home. She was ammenable to the idea, so we caught a cab and headed out. The cab was $6 and we paid $10 at the door to get in. Then we paid $11 for a couple of Bloody Mary's (including tip). So far, this was $27. We found a table, had a seat and were immediately informed that the kitchen was closed! Inlcuding a cab ride home, this was going to cost us over $30 just to walk in and have a couple of drinks and no supper! Fortunately, Diana went back up to the doorman and was able to get our cover charge back.

We ended up going to Calico's were we pigged out on "Spinach & Artichoke Dip" and the "Chicken Quesadillas" for a grand total of $32. I am not sure why I am mentioning so many prices.... probably because Diana and I discovered that we are both "math deficient" as she puts it and were having a most horibble time trying to figure out who owed whom what! We were hopless.

We walked the few blocks home around 1:00am. Or "trudged" home, I should say. We were not exactly peppy by this time, and I crashed immediately.

Saturday - July 27, 2002
Happy 18th Birthday to my niece
Calais Selfridge ... she an adult now!!

7:47a - Skip is already off to Soulard Market. I gave him some money to pick up some meat, veggies and spices. Hope he can carry it all.

8:43a - Kira and I walked around thruogh the edge of the Arch grounds for the first time since her injury this morning. She gets tired a lot more than she did. I think she will be better when the weather cools down and her injury is finally healed.

8:48a - Chatting with Calisa on line this morning.

I cleaned up the kitchen this morning then went to the pool. I took my boom-box and my newly created "Romanian" music CD's. I got just a little too much sun. There are only 4 weekends left before the pool closes!

I was too tired to go out and do anything tonight. Probably because of getting so much sun. I finally got Skip up around midnight and then went to bed myself.

Sunday - July 28, 2002

I did not do much today. I got the kitchen cleaned again. I made Devon a web page. I experimented for the first time with creating a web based photo "album" using Fireworks III.

I went out to Clem's around 6pm. Just drank beer (no mixed drinks). As usual, I spent most of my time alone and had pleasant if boring time.

I came home and had some of Skip's beans and jalepeño cornbread.

Monday - July 29, 2002

7:52a - It's back to work time <sigh>. I have a rash on the inside of my left arm. I noticed it last Friday and it seems to be getting worse. I don't know if its a fungus or not.

8:40a - Y'aav' ey' aatl' aavy' aasge uutede. Baaske Y'ech' iith' iinzbe aastl' aitne. Y'iipk' aany' artfeingye. Ick.

Jack came over a little after 7pm and we took care of business.

I have been learning to create on-line albums. Got 2 or 3 created tonight.

Tuesday - July 30, 2002

12:30a - Finally finished my supper, which consister of saur kraut, onion, seasonings chicken breast. (and beer).

12:31a - Off to bed now!!!

WEIGHT: 222.75

8:32a - I looked at my albums I made last night. They are cool!

8:34a - I understand from Marty the Billy has my darts. I apparently left them in his car.

Oops... We don't play darts tonight. It is a bypass night (or some such). So Lisa Z. and I went to Talayna's to have a bite to eat. She was on duty and had to call the voice mail every few minutes, but it was fun having her join me at a favorite hangout. Robert (iith' inskeine uutky' aanwe) was there and introduced me to his mother. Later he told me she was there due to the fact that his father hass passed away. Very sad. Lisa left and I stayed for a while. One of the waiters named Josh wat with me and had his supper. Apparently he has worked there for a while, but I never met him. Iihe sh' os' aathe! Thw aandbl' errhe, imsle, aanj' ey' obish' ezve.

When I got home, I was very upset to find the door was wide open! Skip was in bed asleep. Barnabus or Kira could either one have wandered out in to the hall. I can't believe he could be so stupidly carless! Grrr!

Wednesday - July 31, 2002

8:28a - The last day of the month (ie, "payday") is finally here. Another month gone by. I have to make an August web page in my journal still. I better get that done tonight. I will be on duty tonight and Thursday night.

9:44p - I has been a busy night working here at home. Several voice mails, and a Help Desk email. Meanwhile, I have been trying to get my August page functional. Ack... 9:45 ... I need to make another call to check voice mail now.

9:46p - No new messages.
