Lee, Jack, Adam and Kira ring in the new year...

SATURDAY - January 6, 2001

Computer and Train show at Amerca's Center

Jack and I went to the America's Center to the Computer & Train show today.

SUNDAY - January 7, 2001

I took Kira for another walk in Forest Park today

MONDAY - January 8, 2001
Elvis A. Presley’s birthday. 1/8/36-8/16/77)

I have had a problem with my diary this month. Everything got scrambled. I could not upload any changes or I would lose everything. When I get all my old stuff back off the Internet, I will be able to upload everything.

The day before yesterday (Saturday), Jack and I went to a Computer/Train show downtown. They had some good buys and I picked up some cheap software, including an item called “Mayo Clinic Family Pharmacy.” I loaded it and it totally messed up my computer! I spent all day yesterday trying to fix it. I finally succeeded by completely reloading Windows 98! That took a long time and I wasn’t sure if it was going to help... or make matters worse!

Last week, starting on Doug’s birthday (Jan 3), I joined in with Brenda and Tracy at work to participate in a 3 day diet. I stuck to it fairly well until Friday night. I knew I would not adhere to it there... but I did pretty good. I need to “diet” in some fashion again this week. I need to lose 40 to 50 pounds!

TUESDAY - January 9, 2001

Well... standard day. My highlight was doing laundry tonight.

FRIDAY - January 12, 2001

This is a 3 day weekend. The last paid holiday until May.

I went out last night. Y’Intw’ uut’ iith’ arbe aaltke “Esfieze” (ny’ Aashoke -- y’ond’ aantw’ uut’ ese che nye Ingleze). I didn’t stay out very long. I took a taxi home and the driver was a young girl who spoke Romanian!

Terry had his interview with A.G. Edwards today. It sounded very promising. I hope he gets it. He really wants the job.

SATURDAY - January 13, 2001

I sat at home all day. Jack needed to fax something, so we got my printer/fax machined set up to fax. I also got my flatbed hooked up to the a/b switch.

SUNDAY - January 14, 2001

Well, I didn’t do too much today. This afternoon I went down to Talayna's, but I sat there and no one waited on me. I got impatient and went to Casa Gallardo at Union Station where I had a few beers with some chips & salsa. I like to order their “chicken tenders” and I usually get the “buffalo style,” but last time I got them they were too salty tasting. So this time I got them with wing sauce and sour cream on the side. That was much better. Then I went back to Talayna’s. Tim was working and I got some service. I had a snack of their garlic bread with cheese. I was great! I will have to order that again!

MONDAY - January 15, 2001
Dr. Martin Luther King Day

Well... the most exciting thing I did today was to go to the grocery store. This time I went to the only other store available here, “Straub’s.” They are ridiculously overpriced! For example, a 10 pack of Atra blades (for shaving) costs over $13.00!!

TUESDAY - January 16, 2001

It’s back to work today... not just for me, but for Jack as well. He starts a new job today at a country club in Clayton.

Well, Jack had a long day at work and didn’t get home until after I had gone to bed.

WEDNESDAY - January 17, 2001

A fairly typical day. It was in the high thirties. I loaded some new software at home tonight for web development. It’s going to be very hard to learn, I think.

Kira had a little accident of some kind when I took her for her walk tonight. She got dog poop all over her left shoulder. I have no idea how. I didn’t even notice until after she had eaten dinner and came up to me to let me know she had finished her food. I was on my computer and wasn’t looking. I reached down to pet her and... GROSS! I pulled back my back my hand and discovered what had happened.

Jack had his second day working at the St. Louis Club in Clayton. He leaves at the same time I do in the morning, but he is working until about 10pm! Long hours!

I was on line with my sister, Calisa, last night. She sent me a picture of my niece, Calais, with her boyfriend. She is so beautiful! I am so proud!

THURSDAY - January 18, 2001

Today was hectic at work. Tracy had to leave early due to her son getting sick. Lisa didn’t come in at all due to her daughter getting sick. Gary left at his normal time at 2:30, and it was a BUSY day!

As I was getting ready to leave work this evening, Laura called me (she’s the Director of the Computer Section in which I work). I had sent her a recipe for a pasta & sausage dish and she wanted to make it. She had the ingredients, but lost the recipe. I was able to find a copy and email it to her at home.

After work, I went to Talayna’s and had some beers & wings! Mike was tending the bar.

FRIDAY - January 19, 2001

It has been snowing all day again! Big fluffy flakes this time. Tracy worked to 6pm with me tonight. Today was not as hectic as yesterday. We ordered lunch from Einstein’s Bagel’s at lunch. Reuben sandwiches on pumpernickel bagels. Then Tracy and I ordered food again this evening from a Chinese deliver service. I just got some shrimp fried rice for supper and some crab Rangoon for a snack at work.

SATURDAY - January 20, 2001

I spent all day scanning old photos and editing them. I scanned in about 71 pictures. I still have a few of the to edit.

Around 6pm I finally quit working on photos and went out for a while.

SUNDAY - January 21, 2001

I got up around 5:00am and started working on my pictures. I finally finished them all about 10:30am. Then I cleaned up in the kitchen for a while. Around 2:30, I went over to Terry’s. I had a couple of CD’s for him. I also went back over to the store where I bought my jacket (the one I lost last week), to see if I could get another one. They did have the same jackets! ...and they were on sale for only $8.99!! (They were $15 originally). So I got one....

MONDAY - January 22, 2001

Laura brought me a dish of the pasta/sausage recipe she made last Thursday. It was just delicious! Otherwise, the day was fairly typical.

I had supper at Talayna’s again. That’s getting expensive, but getting to the grocery store is such a pain without a car!

Melanie, a girl Jack use to work with, came over at 1:30 this morning and woke everyone up. I didn’t get back to sleep normally for the rest of the night.

TUESDAY - January 23, 2001

Today at work I was supposed to go on site and “install a memory card.” When I got there, it turned out that it was an entire laptop with peripherals and all. It needed Windows 2000 loaded and the “memory cards” were RAM chips that needed to be installed. This was far beyond the scope of the call as it was placed, so I had to explain to them that I couldn’t do the installation. I was kind of embarrassed.

I was exhausted today, since I didn’t get much sleep yesterday. For supper I was very economical. I just bought a can of chili (no beans) and some Fritos. I pour the chili over some Fritos and rice. I had enough left over to take with me to work tomorrow.

The MIR Help Desk staff Me (Brad) Lisa Gary

I went to bed early, but not before I took time to download the pictures off my camera that I took at work today and put them out on the G: drive.

WEDNESDAY - January 24, 2001

We had all kinds of network problems at work today. It was irritating, especially when my Applix system kept going down. Otherwise it was a routine day.

Went to Talayna’s for supper again (this is getting expensive). I just had a Caesar Salad with chicken instead of my usual wings & garlic-cheese bread.

Ken sent an old picture of “Grandma Mac” ... I assume this is Exey Lee McDowell. She looks to be about 40-45 in the picture.

FRIDAY - January 26, 2001

Everything was coated in ice this morning! I could barely walk when I took Kira outside! It’s AWFUL. I hear half the people are at work today.

I got involved in the office football pool. I put five dollars down. I could possibly win up to $100. Lisa Z. was one of the people who didn’t make it in due to the icy roads. She was talking to me on the phone when I was doing the football pool thing and I offered to loan her the $5 and pick the numbers for her.

I went to Talayna’s for supper again. Tonight I tried their Eggplant Parmegiano appetizer. Its a meal in itself in my opinion. At least I didn’t eat wings again!

SATURDAY - January 27, 2001

I just sat around all day editing some pictures on the computer. This evening I went to the Chase theater to watch, “The Shadow of the Vampire.” It was... “ok.” I was not all that thrilled with it. I did find the theater much more enjoyable that the one at Union Station. There was an organist providing live entertainment while we waited for the movie. Then, when the movie was over, the usher’s held the doors open and held a tray of mints for the departing guests. Very classy!

A stroll down Pershing Street today

After the movie, I stopped and Nik’s (the little bar/restaurant downstairs) and had a few drinks. I met these two wonderful ladies, Barb and Pat. We had some entertaining conversation.

SUNDAY - January 28, 2001

8:48 am: Well... today is Super Bowl Sunday. I usually don’t care, but this time I could win some money. I actually know the competing teams or the Ravens and the Giants. I don’t know where they are from (and don’t care). I don’t even care who wins. I am only interested in the scores.

The weather seems to be trying to do something new every time I go out. This morning the ground was covered with granulated ice. It was crunchy and noisy when I walked. This was new!

After finally getting my laundry done, I went down to Casa Gallardo. I expected it to be packed due to the Super Bowl, but to my surprise it was nearly dead there (probably for the same reason). I had my usual chicken tenders with hot sauce on the side, then left.

y’entw’ Ut’ IT’ odlingd' onze enTe. etT’ Ad’ Udfe. Terry Asw’ erTe, Anj’ Ihe enyotryUstd' Im’ Ute iz’ endfre, Michelle.

I don’t know yet what the scores were for the Super Bowl, but I heard the scores for the first 3 quarters and know I didn’t win anything. Probably not for the last quarter either. I’ll find out today.

MONDAY - January 29, 2001

Well, Lisa Z. won $60 of the football pool! And I picked the numbers! How ironic.

Last night one of my co-workers, Bill Clayton, had his father pass away unexpectedly. That added to an already gloomy day of clouds and rain. Then, when I got to work, I learned from Barbara Jones, my close friend in Orlando City hall, that a former co-worker of mine, Ellie Kramer, had died this morning! I had known Ellie for many years and it was very sad to learn.

TUESDAY - January 30, 2001

Nothing spectacular at work today. Installed another CDRW and a program called IDL 5.0.

Went to Talayna’s for supper. Met this guy there named DeAnton and we had a pleasant conversation. I hate sitting there by myself, so it is always pleasant to find someone you can have an interesting conversation with.

WEDNESDAY - January 31, 2001

8:03am Well... this is the last day of my six months probation! It’s also payday. And I have to get my web page finished tonight for publishing tomorrow!

Went for an extended lunch today. Got my check cashed and had lunch with Terry. Then we went to Radio Shack (since Office Depot closed last week). I want to buy some CD-R’s, but they only had a pack of 2 for $8.95! The price of CD-R’s is way down to under $1 each. There was no way I was going to pay nearly $5 for one! I told the manager so.

I was so tired when I got home last night. I managed to get my new Valentine’s theme published and then I took a hot shower and went downstairs to Nik’s and had a couple of martinis and a salad. I was alone, but at least it was relaxing.
