Journal Home IMBOLC
Imbolc (pr. im'-bolk) is also a "fire festival" marking the beginning of Spring, midway between the winter solstice and the vernal equinox. It somewhat corresponds to Groundhog Day, when tradition has it that if a groundhog sees its shadow outside the burrow at dawn, there will be six more weeks of winter. (Of course, the vernal equinox is about six weeks away in any case.) This holiday is also known as Solmonath and Candlemass, and to the ancient Druids, it was Oimeaig (pr. im'-mo(l)g).

I got up around 8:30a. I felt feverish and I know I have a bug in my system. It has been a long time since I have had such. I spent most of the day organizing photos from the past few days, cooking & eating a pot of chicken noodle soup, and watching "The Village" on DVD. It was not quite what I expected, but it was okay. A bit weird! 10:45p -- I have a beef roast which has been cooking since about 2:00p and a pot of baby collards. I am about ready to eat and crash soon... 11:50p - I am off to bed now. Work tomorrow. (sigh). 6:59a – 31° – I got up early this morning after waking up around 6am. I got up at about 6:50a since I knew I was not going to get to sleep after that. 8:12a – I just left the house and the bus is supposed to run in SIX minutes! I am going to have to HURRY! 8:17a – I <pant> <pant> just made it to the bus stop... My packaged still had not arrived at work (nor at home). It was a fairly typical day at work. I had a taco salad for lunch. I had made my lunch last night, but I left it sitting in the icebox. GV had a CD she wanted me to make a label for of her granddaughter's first birthday, but I didn't get to it. I burned a CD this morning before leaving the house of my trip to OK. Most of it anyway, I couldn't get it all on the CD! It was snowing today. This afternoon and on my way home. It's not that cold though, so it's mostly slush. This evening I tried to get some things done on the computer, but I did not get much accomplished. I used some leftover roast beef and made beef fried rice for supper. It came out pretty good. I got up at 7:00a this morning and did not hit the snooze alarm as I usually do. The day was fairly typical. I got GV's label done for her. I also checked on my order with Beach Camera ... and apparently I never MADE the order! I must have done something wrong. Oops. So I reordered today, but did NOT reorder the memory card. I did not bring my lunch again, so I got a chicken friend steak, mashed potatoes with gravy and corn for lunch. I called Tia Marlene on the way home to see how Uncle Sheno's funeral went. She was not pleased with his makeup and said (not her words) that the made him look more Afro than Chicano; way too dark apparently. I also asked her about the famous "letter" from my childhood; and Agreement that I was to stay with Roy Terrell, my biological father, during the summers. She has this document. I would like to get a copy of it. I have heard about it off & on all my life, but only recently discovered that it actually exists and that she has it! I would like to have a copy for myself. It does pertain to ME after all! The snow is mostly all gone already and it was up in the 50's today. I got a bunch of bills done tonight (pay day is tomorrow).
7:34a – 27° – I got up at 7:00a again without hitting the snooze button as is my wont. I feel a bit worn out this morning. I am glad I only have a three day week. They had a little party for RP coming back to work today, combined with a Marti Gras theme, including a King cake. I had my breakfast of 2 over easy, bacon & grits already. I really do not care to be involved in any office events any more after the insulting events of last November/December. Participating in the coffee fund and the lotto is sufficient participation for me these days. 10:02p – Once again... I am not getting much accomplished tonight. Oh, Skip got his income tax refund today. LZ is applying for another job to get out of this mess (I wish her luck). I think I will try to enter Billy's data into FamilyTree Maker now... Got the data entered. Still don't know how to burn a backup to CD though. I got up around 9:00a this morning. It was a beautiful day. Skip spent most of the in Fairview Height (or traveling) to buy a new bed, a new video card and more RAM for his computer. I did my taxes. Mi ricevos tricent okdektri dolaroj. I work with Windows Movie Maker a lot today; it is a very handy little program! I got up early this morning and made pot of chicken noodle soup from the leg quarter that I had boiled last night. 2:15p – 49° – Skip's bed just arrived. 5:50p – 48° – I have a massive meatloaf for Skip and me in the oven and potatoes simmering for mashed potatoes on the stove..
There was a wreck on the way to work this morning. It cause me to nearly be late. My new barrel adaptor and 3 new lens filters arrive today! I went over to the CAM to check out a problem in Express Testing. 7:21a – 32° – I am up, but I feel crappy this morning. I need to bring in my bell pepper plant. I am trying to nurse it through the winter, but it's an annual and has out lived its expected life span already. 7:35a – 32° – I was dreaming this morning about my coin sorter. I was putting way too many coins in it and it was jamming. The gears were grinding and it seemed to be trying to cut its way through the blockage of coins. My photos, nor any of my books arrived today. I joined the "Best_Digital_Photography" group in Yahoo today. BS sounded awful today. I hope she doesn't have something contagious! I cooked a couple of pork steaks for supper and for lunch tomorrow. I felt crappy this morning. I had weird dreams (as usual). One dealt with a little green snake that was apparently poisonous. I was trying to hold it and it was trying to bite me. It was very small, yet very strong for its size. I could barely hold it. Then I got a matching "blue" snake from somewhere, and it began to battle the green snake. They were trying to bite each other, and I was holding them and hoping they did not bite me. This seemed like a very symbolic dream, but I have no clue what it may have symbolized! The weather was dismal and much colder this morning. I chatted with Leila on the train; she rode all the way to CWE with us this morning (she usually exits at the Convention Center). BS was out sick today. I upload 6 photos to the new photography group today. I got my Valentine's package in the mail to RD today! Also, Emma went into labor and Tehya may soon have a little brother (or sister...). Neither my pictures, nor my books arrived ... AGAIN... today. Darn. I chatted with Keri and Mikey tonight. I created an email addy for Mikey. 11:32p – 29° – I am cooking another couple of pork steaks tonight, and a pot of rice with collard juice. I woke up around 3:30 this morning with one of the most violent acid reflux attacks of my life! I jumped (half asleep) from bed and rushed to the bathroom where I proceeded to gag and choke with white-hot acid in my lungs. Tears were pouring from my eyes like a flood from the pain. Then I had (avoiding too much gross detail) a violent attack of diarrhea. I finally went back to bed only to get up about every hour in a rush to the toilet. Sorry to gross out any readers, but its my journal, and that's what happened to me and I hate it more than you do! Finally, morning rolls around and, and I am feeling like quacha! I think I had a mild fever even, so I was starting to wonder if I had caught what BS had at work. I hope not. I had to call in sick. I was a mess. If I had not taken my meds, I might have been able to compensate, but as it was the combination of (whatever) and my meds was too much. So, I decided to cancel all my meds today, except for the BP meds. I took extra vitamins, got a lot of rest (feeling guilty for not being at work). I munched on leftover pork & rice about 3 times during the day. For supper, I ate early, and just fixed a mild vegetarian dish of snap peas and broccoli in cheese sauce; light on salt and spices. I went to bed very early, taking more vitamins and a couple of Tylenol PM's. (... and no beer). I slept great! I feel SOOOOOoooo much better this morning! I was really concerned that I was coming down with influenza, but it would be worse this morning if that were the case. I was so energetic that I got myself ready for work early after reading RD's "osda sunalei" remarks about having the corns cut from her feet. She was feeling happy about not getting up and planting her feet into a puddle of pain. I took more time than usual and blow-dried my hair. I normally let it dry on the way to work and spray it down when I get there. However, as I was leaving (about 8:09a), I realized I had forgotten my keys, so I rushed back in to get them. Then I noticed that I had left my bedroom door open. I don't like to leave it open because Barnabas might go in an "express" himself. So, I got my keys and rushed back out, but as I was about to shut the door behind me, I realized that NOW I had forgotten my badge & bus pass! So I rushed back in to get them. I noticed at this time that I had (again) forgotten to shut my bedroom door (which is a rare thing for me). So, I got my badge & pass, and zipped back out (making sure the bedroom door was closed). It was now 8:11am 8:17am – I almost missed the bus ... it pulled up as I was crossing the road to the bus stop! He was early (again). I got on the bus in time though (barely!). I stopped in Olin Hall for breakfast, as I usually do these days (since my little embargo is over). I got some hash browns with gravy and bacon. However, to my embarrassment and dismay, I realized that my morning's barrage of forgetfulness was not over! I had forgotten... MY WALLET! I had no money on me! So, Shirley let me "owe her" until later. (I really hate that...) SW owed me $30 from back before I went on my OK trip, so I hit her up for my money this morning. She brought me over $40 and asked if I had change. Wha?! ... I forgot my wallet... (hello???). NO ... I have no change!! So she gave me $40 and now I owe her $10. I got change from LZ and paid SW back the $10. Lunch time... I had some Thai beef on rice, with broccoli and cheese on the side. Also paid Shirley back the money for breakfast. Three of my books ordered via Alibris came through yesterday while I was out, but none of my pictures! I am not happy with this slow response by York Photo. So, I stopped at LZ and had 2 drinks before heading home. I started a new book (finally!) tonight. It is the "Landfall" story (1972) describing the original crash landing which began the human factor on the planet of Darkover. I have been reading the Darkover novels for ... most of my life. I will be interested to learn how it all started! I got off the bus as the usual time, slightly after 8:00p and went to Q-Mart. I got a gallon of milk, a 6-pak of Dr. Pepper and some beer. I was $1 short with little cash and no wallet!! How embarrassing! However, Arma, who works at Q-Mart, and knows me, pulled $1 from her pocket to cover me. I will pay her back $2 and she damn well better accept it! (bless her pea-pickin' heart!!) 11:30p – I have a chuck roast cooking. Time to check it. I don't know what to call this beef-based concoction, but it was not too bad. I got up around 7:00am... much too early for a Saturday! I piddled around with email for a while and this 'n that on the computer. I fixed a bowl of soup (based on last night's concoction), then I sat down and started organizing my pills for 6 weeks. As I was working on doing this I was watching a TV show on the History channel about the origins and history of the religious concept of "Hell" ... as depicted and portrayed by various religions throughout history. As I was sorting and organizing bills, there came a banging upon our door. <sigh... interruptions!> I answered the door in my shorts (no shirt). It was an older black gentleman canvassing the neighborhood getting people to register to vote. I really did want to get registered, and so did Skip. So ... we set up a little registration party on the trash can out side (appropriate for politics...eh?). We got all that out of the way (they screwed up the phone number... but, oh well!). I went back in and finished off sorting my pills, and watch the "History of Hell." It is a BEAUTIFUL day today! Temperatures around 60°F, sunny, a light breeze... perfect! After taking some time to dye my ugly gray roots, (Garnier-Nutrisse #50 "Truffle") I took Kira for a walk down to the duck pond. NO COAT! It was very nice out.
8:07p – 56° – The roast is smelling really good! MONDAY
- February 14, 2005 8:03a – 45° – I had so many dreams last night, I feel exhausted from them this morning. The general theme seemed to be that I was away at a convention. I had to wear my skates at one point, and I met Marita there. She was harried and in a hurry, with a glass of wine in her hand! We spoke some pleasantries in German... and the the dream rushed on. Whew! Tiring! RD received her package from me precisely on time for Valentine's Day! "B" is reputedly loving the CD's I made for her. That's great. I am pleased. I am now reading the "first" Darkover novel called "Land Fall." It is not actually the first in the series, but it is considered the "first" story of the Darkover novels. It describes the original crash landing of a Terran colonial spacecraft which went astray and crash landed on Darkover. It is a short novel, but gives an interesting account of the first Darkovans and how they came to be. I have been reading Marion Zimmer-Bradley's Darkover novels for so long now, that I feel I am part of the family! (Don't ask me *which* family though! I gues it would be one of the major Comyn families of Aillard, Aldarn, Alton, Ardais, Elhalyn, Hastur or Ridenow (also called Sarrais). I got up about 8:00a. Had some leftovers for breakfast. Caught the 10:18a bus and made my 11:00a appointment on time. This will be my last EAP appointment. Then I caught the #40 bus down to Soulard where I walked around and too 248 pictures. It was a very beautiful day! I am glad I took it off. However, now I need to focus on not missing any days for a while so I can build my reserve back up. Skip was home when I arrived. He wasn't feel well and came home early. He also put the fire alarms up tonight. I uploaded 6 new pix to my new Yahoo Group "Better_Digital_Photos." 11:07p – 39° – My neck hurts. I am about to eat supper. I need to go to bed.
While I was preparing the food, Helen finally woke up and came back in the house. It was already dark by this time. They left shortly after this. It was good to have company and kind of them to come by. However, I am very worried about Helen's condition. Shortly after Helen and Scott left, Marty called. He and JR were on their way over to pick up the cans. They got here and Marty gave me a ride over to Wal-Mart where I picked up another couple of bags of food for Kira, and about 8 3-wick candles (I hate to be out of candles). 11:45a – 55° – I got up at 7:00a this morning, gave K-dog her pills (took my pills), and did the dishes, first thing. I made a pot of coffee (rare for me) and now I have caught up my journal. Itsula uha agalisgv ahani gohi iga! (My Tsalagi is improving!). I feel much better today than I did yesterday. I am trying to get myself motivated to go over to the store this morning. Its almost noon. I should try to go earlier than I usually do. 1:41pa – 56° – I have put batteries in my old radio and found the tape of Mom talking to Sharon. I had to pull the tape apart and clean it, whcih was VERY tedious! I got it working again! Now... to see if I can record it to CD... I was unable to record the tape directly from the player, but I did set it up with the microphone in front of the speakers and record it that way. At least I have that much of it saved, though it is not the highest quality. I also found a tape with Roy Terrell and recorded it. That one is 122Mb though! I made a pork roast for supper, some potato salad and some snap sugar peas. It was really good! I went to bed early around 9:30p. 7:34a – 43° – I woke up around 11:00p last night and could not go back to sleep until about 2:00a. Then I had wild dreams all night. In one I was being transported as a prisoner by a Korean officer. He was going to get me out of sight and kill me, saying that I had tried to escape. I woke up before that one got too scary. In another I was going through airport customs and Gary was with me. He had to have a duffle bag searched and it took a long time. Then is was not longer Gary in the dream... he changed into my sister, Darlene. She was carrying a baby, but decided to leave the baby with the customs agent to babysit! Chuck was in another dream. He picked me up from an airport. Maybe travel is in my future? I have to get dressed. Skip is going in with me this morning. He has a doctor's appointment. Another long, boring day. LZ was out today. Just me and Gary until he left. Then I sat in the office until 6:45p. Very boring. It is is ridiculous that I have to sit there for that long and do nothing. Darn... and I just remember that I did not log out of the phones tonight. I added Brenda P. to my YIM and AIM lists today. I worked on more of the genealogy information Calisa sent me. I went over 500 entries in my database tonight! I was chatting with Judy online today and she mentioned that Aunt Betty was buried in Jeddo Cemetery, in Bastrop County, Texas. With that tidbit of information, I was able to locate more information! I learned also that I had another brother that I did not know about named Wesley Cole Terrell (Oct 8, 1958 - Oct 9, 1958). Calisa is trying to get information from county office already. Then, when I got home this evening, I had a chat with Ken and learned of yet ANOTHER sibling! This one is E.D. Morse and she is the daughter of Roy Terrell. Her mother was Angel (or Angela?) and Angela is daughter to Diana. Mom knew Diana, and Ken has two kids by her; Alvin and Tamisa. Ken gave me E.D.'s cell# and I gave her a call! We chatted for 20-30 minutes. She is only 18 and lives in Michigan. What a trip! That was really cool. Didn't get to bed until about midnight tonight. I sure didn't want to get up this morning... but I did. RD said she got a little more snow, but she is disappointed in its measly attempt. My head was still reeling with learning of "another" sister last night. I talked poor Dotty's ear off on the bus telling her all about it this morning. 3:23p - Another book that I ordered arrived. This one is "The heirs of Hammerfell." Also (yay!) my "Beginning Cherokee" book is here! 5:50p - nearly time to quit. Should I go have a drink? Or wait here at work? hmmmm.... 6:19p - Still sitting here at the office. Ho hum... 6:47p - Finally... I'm outta here! I had major stomach problems this morning and had to go in 3 hours late. At least I did make it in. This was a very bad day once again at work. Now they are saying that I have not been logging in to the ClinDesk and ImageWeb systems to do our every 2 hour image check. I know we have all become a bit lax in this process (as process that I put together, incidentally), but they say have I have only logged in to the system 2 times all month! I don't see how this is possible. I have to log in for other reasons to perform my job. It doesn't make sense and I am worried sick over this. I spent all day in a blue funk about work. I just know they are going to make the scapegoat in this entire affair and I seriously concerned they will fire me. It has bee such a beautiful day out today, and I wanted to go out to take some photos or something, but just couldn't get motivated. Skip and I finally walked over to the dollar store and then to Schnucks for some groceries. Marty and JR came over tonight for the cans. Marty brought Skip a saws-all which cost Skip about $20. I cooked a chuck roast, some sugar snap peas, potato salad and a cheese gravy. I must say, everything came out tasting awesome! I woke up around 3:00a and slept fitfully off & on for the rest of the night. I tried to sleep in this morning, but did not manage much. Unlike yesterday, it has been a dreary cloudy day. My mood has not improved much. Skip and I got some work done at least. We bought a pair of shears and trimmed the "fronds" in the front yard. Skip got to use his new saw and cut down some of the shrubbery that is tearing up the chain link fence at the end of the house. We got all the brush to the pile behind the house, raked up the yard and burned it all. Kira has been on my bad side this evening. When we got back from the store, she had pulled open a trash back and had garbage strewn all over the kitchen and living room! MONDAY
- February 28, 2005 I slept poorly again last night and had some disturbing dreams. Especially one about Darlene being in the hospital. Calisa was with her when I arrived. She was in a bed and they said she had a brain tumor. It was a very realistic and very disturbing dream. 7:43a - Time to go to work. I hate this feeling of dread. Nothing happen today regarding the issue at work ... yet. I am still concerned and I am sure this is not over. It snowed off & on today. |
